Motor Mount Inserts - Saturn SC2 - Prothane 7510
Prothane Motor Mount Inserts
Prothane's motor mount inserts are crafted out of polyurethane, a material much more durable than rubber that can handle intense weight, heat, and pressure. Designed to fill the voids built into your OE motor mounts, these inserts will drastically increase the power transfer efficiency from your engine to the wheels. Since the voids were initially put there to reduce NVH, it stands to reason that filling in those voids will have the opposite effect. Installing Prothane's motor mount inserts may increase your NVH, but the increase to overall performance is worth it to some drivers. To top it all off, Prothane's motor mount inserts are covered by a lifetime warranty handled in-house here at DST.
OE Motor Mounts
OE motor mounts are usually made out of metal with holes strategically placed to keep most of the engine's vibrations from traveling to the cab. While the OE mounts are decent for the daily driver, the weekend warrior or straight up racer will probably look for an upgrade. Prothane's Polyurethane motor mount inserts offer a great performance boost equal to that of a solid motor mount, without the higher cost.

These parts are very nice right from the package. However, they did not fit my vehicle. Apparently there are two versions of the torque strut that are used on Saturns and I have the version that is unusual. After modification of the oval bushing and the torque strut I was able to install the parts and they seem to work wonderfully, limiting engine movement to a degree not previously possible.verified_user Verified Buyer - Landon Solomon - . I found them quite useful, although it required some cutting and time to modify them to my application. Once in, they are performing great the motor sits still and steady.verified_user Verified Buyer - Josh Martin - . Prothane 7510 - 5 out of 5

This was my first time changing out engine mounts and the very first time that I put performance parts in a vehicle that I owned. My 1999 Saturn SL1 had the typical bad upper engine mount which needed to be changed. Seeing as how all the mounts should be changed at the same time, I went with OEM upper engine and transmission mounts and decided to go with the Prothane inserts for the torque mounts (commonly referred to as the "dogbones"). My lower dogbone was in decent shape yet but the upper one was really shot! Removing the rubber from the old dogbones was easy. The small end easily pushed out with a vise, socket, and a strategically placed block of wood. For the large end, I cut the webbing out of the first one as per the instructions. However, on the second one, I simply bent the tabs back and chiseled the sides in a bit and it slid out by hammer and chiseling the top to push it out. (Cutting the webbing was by far the worst step.) At first it appeared that the large inserts were too big to go in. But using a bit of dielectric grease, I worked in the tapered end by hand until it wouldn't go in any further. Then I placed it in the vise and slowly pressed it in the rest of the way. If you have the parts lined up well, it will eventually just pop right in! Make sure you press the part in without the metal bushing in place, so that the insert can compress enough to be inserted. First drive with the new inserts was great! The poly inserts gave me a little more vibration in the car but I knew that was going to happen. I feel it more in my seat than I do in the steering wheel or pedals. Its enough that the change is noticeable but its not enough to make my butt go numb. (Vibration is transferred to the "frame" which I am OK with.) However, the performance is AWESOME! My engine no longer feels like its twisting all over the place when I give it some gas. The car feels much more solid while driving. I can't say for sure that its giving me better performance as I have no way to measure that, but the feel improved and that gives me more confidence in my ride. That in and of itself is worth a lot! With all the mounts changed, my engine even sounded a little throatier, which is pretty impressive for that little SOHC! I definitely recommend these inserts with the side note of slightly increased vibration in the car frame.verified_user Verified Buyer - Kristie Kaik - . Prothane 7510 - 5 out of 5
starstarstarstarstar" definately worth it "
I think there are two reasons someone would look here: 1 -performance upgrade, poly vs. floppy rubber. OK you dont even need to look here then... 2 -you want inexpensive replacement parts. long story short, they work great. The only time I notice any additional vibration at all is with the car in drive, stopped, at idle, and then its barely noticeable. It is more noticeable under the same conditions but with the ac on. For the money, I will definitely take it. These were $30! What I feel was the next best option: oem parts from online discounters selling for 90 a piece / 180 pair, that is before shipping. I installed all 4 mounts at the same time, (oem for the mount by the valve cover and trans) so its hard to say how much of the handling improvements came from which parts for sure, or how these compare to new oem torque struts for certain, but the car handles noticeably better than before.verified_user Verified Buyer - mark - .
