Prothane Total Kit 7-2049
This is Prothane's Total Kit 7-2049 for a 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt and a 2006-2011 HHR. If you are in the market for upgrading or replacing your cracked rubber bushings causing that annoying clunking noise and sloppy handling, then look no further. Prothane's 7-2049 is made just for you. Replace your soft OE rubber control arm and sway bar bushings with Prothane's performance polyurethane bushings and do away the handling and noise issues caused by your stock rubber bushings for the life of your vehicle.
Front Control Arm Bushing Kit
Many people are experiencing an annoying clunking noise coming from the front of their Cobalt and HHR in as little as 30 thousand miles. When you take your vehicle to your local mechanic, chances are they will tell you this clunking noise is caused by your front control arms. The good news is that the problem is the stock rubber bushings, not the entire arm. More specifically, the clunking is caused by the splitting and/or rotting of your OE rubber bushings. The larger vertical control arm bushing is the biggest issue, as it takes the most stress. The longer your suspension travels, the more this bushing is stretched and compressed until finally, the bushing cracks and clunking will ensue. By installing Prothane's performance polyurethane bushings, you can solve the clunking without having to replace your entire control arm.
For the front control arm, 7-244, this kit contains the horizontal position bushing, the vertical position bushing, and the ball joint dust boots for each ball joint. For the vertical position, there is two bushings, one for each side, and two inner steel sleeves that are designed to match your original equipment bolts. By using your OE bolts you can keep the cost of your suspension upgrade down. For the horizontal position, there are four half bushings, two inner steel shafts, and four washers and snap rings. New to the front control arm kits, Prothane has included two polyurethane dust boot covers for your ball joints on both sides. These dust boots will fit tightly around your ball joint, keeping the grease in and keeping out harmful road contaminants that could potentially damage your joint. With these bushings and dust covers, you can greatly increase the life of your control arm, saving you from costly repairs down the road.
It will be necessary to burn out your OE bushings in order to install Prothane's bushings in your arms. This process needs to be done very carefully and slowly. Make sure you do not use too much heat because your arm is aluminum and too much heat could damage or deform the arms. Prothane includes several of their patented Super Grease and recommends that you use plenty of grease when installing. Apply grease anywhere the bushing is in contact with metal to ensure a long squeak free life.
Front Sway Bar Bushing Kit
Another complaint from Cobalt and HHR owners is the handling around corners. This annoyance is caused by the soft rubber sway bar bushings that come stock on your vehicle. As your suspension does its work, the rubber sway bar bushings stretch and compress and soon lose that grip on the sway bar. Once this grip is gone, there is nothing to hold your sway bar in place while going around a corner. With Prothane's 7-2049, your soft factory rubber sway bar bushings will be replaced with these polyurethane sway bar bushings for a 24mm bar, 7-1190. These bushings have been designed specifically for the HHR and Cobalt.
Rear Control Arm Bushing Kit
This Total Kit we have also include two bushings for the Rear Control arm, 7-320. Just like the front control arm bushings, you will want to use plenty of the included grease when installing to ensure your bushings will not squeak. Included are two inner steel sleeves that match your OE bolts to hold the bushings in place.
